Background:
The Gretsch Company, one of the world's most well-known drum and guitar manufacturers, developed the "Next Gretsch Greats Unsigned Artist Competition", an online competition to find the world's hottest unsigned bands! The promotion, to celebrate their 125th anniversary, asked artists to visit the promotion website and submit an mp3 file of the original song that could help make them famous. The multicultural promotion was executed in the United States, U.K., Canada, Spain, Germany, France and Japan. The Grand Prize Winner performed live at Gretsch's 125th Anniversary Concert in New York City and received a full rack of great Gretsch gear.
Mechanics:
- Unsigned artists visit www.gretsch125th.com to submit an mp3 file of the song of their choice.
- From those submissions, ten finalists were selected by popular online voting.
- An expert panel that selected the grand, first and second prizewinners judged those ten finalists.
